Portraits of Afghanistan

In Afghanistan the difference between rich and poor are enormous. We could meet ministers, heroin addicts living in the streets & everything in between – all in the same day.

Large guarded houses with piles of garbage outside in the dirt covered streets, where animals & poor people could hope to find a bite to eat.

My emotions are very mixed looking at these images. Warm feelings from the people we met along the way – but also deep despair for the future of the people of Afghanistan.

Despite all the heavy armed people nearly everywhere, most people are friendly if you approach them. The guard looking really cool & angry, just put on the face when I photographed him. Before and after he was smiling & shaking my hand.

We can all learn to be better to meet things that are new to us. When you treat others friendly & with respect across race, religion etc many doors will open & help avoid conflicts & war.
